How to avoid negativity

Five essential steps to help avoid negativity in life. Hence, follow your dreams and battle the negativity that comes your way.

Often, people feel they can’t accomplish anything because they are colored, white, come from poor backgrounds, or think that what they want to do won’t work in their area.

For example, I remember one situation very well. I sent one of my friends (from my birthplace) my website’s domain to let her know that I had started blogging. So the response I got was appalling.

Instead of cheering me up, she proceeded to tell me, “Who reads blogs in our country? Do you know how women bloggers are perceived here?” Still, that didn’t stop me from following my dreams.

This is just one small example. We have all faced more significant challenges and extreme negativity in our lives. Hence, today’s post.

Below are five practical ways to avoid the negativity that can come your way when you want to chase your dreams.

1. Positive affirmations

Affirmations are words that help you assert that something exists and help you overcome negativity. For example, the answer I gave my friend. It was a clear statement to show that I don’t entertain or allow negativity in what I want to do.

Do you experience any internal or external negativity? Please use these statements:

  • I can do it
  • I was born to do this
  • Nothing can hold me back
  • I’m not a failure
  • I love who I am and what I do
  • I choose happiness
  • I live my dream
  • Everything will be alright

Positive affirmations like these can work wonders. Over time, you’ll find that they help you avoid and overcome any negativity that comes your way.

2. Identify thought distorts

You may be able to do something very well. But what distorts your thoughts are: jumping to conclusions.

How. By assuming that people will not like it, that you aren’t good at it, and more.

To avoid distorted thoughts;

  • Change your situation.
  • Keep yourself busy

"An idle mind is a devil's workshop."

3. Avoid external negativity

This is the cure for it;

  • Keep positive company. Once you know the enemy of your dreams or people who doesn’t uplift you, it’s better to stay away. Doing this doesn’t mean you are being rude, but it’s for your good.

"Positive friends, positive vibe."

4. Focus on your strengths

No one is perfect. We all have our weaknesses. That’s why you shouldn’t be afraid of them.

Instead, ignore those weaknesses and focus on what you are good at. The small percentage you feel that you are good, go for it.

You’ll help yourself build confidence, gain the strength to challenge the negative thoughts, and do the rest.

5. Get help

You may have reached that corner where negativity seems to have won over you. If you feel like you’re on such an edge, it’s worth seeking help. Talk to a family member, a church member, or a professional counselor who you think might be able to help you.
