As we head into 2021, I know many people are preparing their New Year’s resolutions. The resolutions might be to start a relationship, start a business, or something else. Unfortunately, some of us don’t get anywhere with those resolutions. And why? Because we don’t know how to overcome the fear of starting.

Are you a person who has been in such a situation, then this post is for you.

An ultimate guideline to help overcome the fear of starting

What is fear?

In simple terms, fear is anxious concern about something.

Reasons why people fear to start

Many of us struggle from the inside out every day. Inhibited by fear and lack of belief in ourselves, we end up not knowing where to start.

After doing a little inner self-research, I came up with a list of why people are afraid to start something new.

  • Fear of the unknown
  • Failure
  • Committing to something
  • Not being perfect
  • Being seen out there

How to overcome the fear of starting

1. Identify your fear

The way to solve a problem is first to identify the problem itself.

Is it one of the above or another? Once you know what fear is holding you back, you can begin the process of overcoming it.

2. Give it a trial

If you don’t give it a try, you’ll be even more afraid. Do it, and learn from the experience.

You’ll only panic the first day, and by the second day at the latest, you’ll have gained the courage to continue.

" I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. the brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear."

3. Don't think of perfection

In life, you’ll always have ups and downs. Ignore the thought that you have to be perfect. Sometimes things will be good and smooth. But at other times, they’ll be challenging.

"Have no fear of perfection- you'll never reach it."

4. Focus only on the positive

Take a moment and switch off from the negative. Think of what good things could happen to you if you start doing whatever it’s you are doing.

Let these positive thoughts motivate you to keep going and start without fear.

5. Focus on what you can control

Finally, focus only on what you can control. For example, maybe the fear of starting a blog or an online business. The reason is you think you can’t write often.

I always say, start small. You can write a blog post once a week and do the rest of your work the rest of the week.

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to do your best. Take what you can handle, and things will improve as the days go by.

I hope this article was helpful and will help you overcome fear and do what you want to do in life.
