Today’s food of thought: How to thrive as a stay-at-home mom.
We can all agree that there’s nothing wrong with being a stay-at-home mom, but one thing this blog will never tell you is to leave your job and become one. So hold on to it if you have a chance out there, dear mom; never let it go.
But having said that, there are so many reasons that can drive us to become stay-at-home moms. For example, I am one of them. The reason is that I’m in a new country doing my local language classes before I can find a job and waiting for daycare to start for Synnøve.
As I mentioned above, there are many reasons; others could be:
- You lost your job.
- You have a child who needs special full-time care due to health issues.
- It’s your choice.
Whatever the reason, please let’s not judge each other. Instead, let’s motivate each other on how to keep going as stay-at-home moms.
Today, I’m writing this post to inspire you and another mom out there.
1. Have a routine
There’s nothing more important than having a routine. Many of us moms, especially those new to motherhood, assume that nothing should be planned because we have to take care of our baby. But that’s not entirely true.
There are times when your baby sleeps for a long time and lies by themselves relaxedly. However, you could not do anything productive when you had not planned what to do during these times.
I remember my partner grumbling about the first month’s routine, but mom, it was worth it! And if you do a little research, you’ll understand that habits are essential for infants and toddlers. But, these routines don’t just benefit the baby. They are also of great importance to you as a mother.
Regular and consistent routines can make you feel like you are doing an excellent job as a parent. Practices help your family manage daily tasks more efficiently and create time for other things. Routines often mean that you don’t have to settle disputes or make decisions.
2. Me time
When it comes to thriving as stay-at-home moms, our second point is to create our own time.
‘Me time’ is something I’ve mentioned before. But if you haven’t come across the phrase, please follow the link at the bottom of this post.
I firmly believe that taking time for oneself is a form of thriving.
Let’s think of it this way: You are in your work environment day and night. You don’t leave your desk, and you don’t even get a day off. Do you feel what I am talking about now?
It’s essential to schedule a girl’s night out, a gym session, or a nice walk alone.
3. Take a break
One mistake I also made as a mom is I thought I could do it all. But I had to change that after realizing that burnout could cause you to become lazy.
Therefore, I recommend taking breaks to re-energize and get more done.
4. Find some company
You’ll hear it over and over again: Motherhood can be lonely. And even more so if you’re a stay-at-home mom.
For this reason, it pays to get out and meet other people. Since you can’t do this every day, it’s also good to join motherhood groups, such as on Facebook, where you can get inspiration to thrive as a stay-at-home mom from other people’s experiences.
5. Stay organized
As we end, this is an important point that I cannot dare leave out when thriving as a stay-at-home mom.
So, how do we stay organized as stay-at-home moms?
- Prioritize the most important tasks
- Discover the activity breaks in your child’s day
- Do the routine we talked about earlier consistently.
